Erzulie Dantor is an important figure in the Haitian voodoo religion. She is considered one of the main deities of this religion, which was born in Haiti over the centuries from a mixture of different African, Indian and Catholic beliefs. Erzulie Dantor is the goddess of love, motherhood and protection, and is often associated with strength, determination and femininity. She is usually depicted as a strong and protective woman, who carries a child on her lap and is often depicted with scars on her face, representing the suffering endured by Haitian women. In Haitian voodoo worship, Erzulie Dantor is revered during religious ceremonies and prayers, and is often invoked for help and protection in aspects of daily life such as health, relationships, and finances.
Dantor is by far one of the most popular female Petro Lwa. She can be a tough lady, a little wild, but before all she is a mother. She is the most perfect mother one could wish to have. Dantor is a mother who watches and cares for her children very much. She can be a disciplinarian, as she does not and will not tolerate children behaving badly. She will defend her children and family until the very end. Dantor will also help a person for very little sacrifice on their part.
Saint Barbara Africa, or Santa Barbara Africana, is a name given to the Catholic saint Barbara in some African religious traditions, especially in West Africa. In these traditions, Saint Barbara is considered a protective figure for Africans and is often invoked to obtain protection from storms, fires, diseases and dangers in general. The feast of Saint Barbara Africa is celebrated on December 4 and is marked by processions, songs and dances, as well as religious ceremonies.
Saint Barbara, who is often associated with lightning and protection from storms, has also been adopted in other cultures around the world, including Latin America, where she is considered the patron saint of miners and workers in pyrotechnics-related trades.
